Represents a ventilation component in the building that is not attached to the mechanical system.

An HRV/ERV's flow is set with a fan of type HRV. Its efficiency and fan power come from house.equipment.hrv.entity. If the house has an HRV but no HRV fan or mechanical_supply_rate_ls is given, the flow defaults to the BC Building Code minimum for the heated floor area.

For EnerGuide: Depending on the whole_house status the fan gets categorized under the ventilation and influences the ventilation heat loss. For F280: Takes part in the AIM2 model in conjunction with the main ventilation, HRV/ERV, and air leakage.

    • Optionalsupply_ls: number
    • Optionalexhaust_ls: number

Properties

auto_power: boolean = false

Denotes whether the fan can turn on automatically. Currently for documentation only.

comment?: string

See Comment.

daily_usage_hours: number = 24

A number between 0 and 24 being the number of hours the fan is used per day. Defaults to 0. Specifiying this number is important because a fan may have a high flow rate for code compliance and other reasons, but it may not be used all the time. Using the maximum flow rate for energy calculations thus may not be accurate.

For EnerGuide: it only matters when the fan is supplimental. EnerGuide determines the daily usage of whole_house: true fans itself.

For F280: It is used to determine the daily usage of the fan considering the section B.5.2.3.2 of the standard.

exhaust_ls: number

Fan exhaust rate in liters per second. Can be a positive number or zero.

room?: string

The room the fan belongs to.

For EnerGuide: has no effect. Just for documentation.

For F280: is used to determine the room-level air losses, if the fan is not whole_house. So it must be set when whole_house is false.

supply_ls: number

Fan supply rate in liters per second. Can be a positive number or zero.

type: "HRV" | "Range hood" | "Bathroom" | "Utility" | "Dryer"

Type of the fan. Gets used in the infiltration model to determine energy exchange due to ventilation.

For EnerGuide: At least one Dryer type must be present at all times and it's always whole_house: false. For consistent behaviour only one HRV should be present and its whole_house should be true. Example HRV: { type: 'HRV', whole_house: true, supply_ls: 28, exhaust_ls: 28, auto_power: true }

whole_house: boolean = false

Determines the role of the fan.

For EnerGuide: The fans that are not whole house are considered supplimental.

For F280: The fans that are whole house, will be considered part of the central ventilation system, i.e. their supply/exhaust rates will be added to the main ventilation system. When a fan is not whole house, a valid room name must be provided so that Fans that are not whole house
